Do you ever find yourself having an attitude of superiority toward those who you perceive to be “less than” you? In order to approach those in need around us with the right attitude we need to realize that we were — and still are — “the poor.” We need to see that God Himself “brought in the poor” — that He saw our need and had compassion on us. When we see ourselves as needy and dependent on the Lord, we will then have an attitude of compassion and empathy toward others.
Do you desire to have God’s heart for the needy in your life? Do you want to see people the way that He sees them? God is no respecter of persons — His heart is the same for all people! We need to recognize that the ground is level at the foot of the cross — the reality is that we are all poor and needy! When we see God’s heart of love for us, we are then able to be a channel of that love and kindness to others.
